Professional Bio
I’m Paul Mah, a third-generation Chinese Canadian with a passion for technology, community building, and principled civic engagement. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering—two degrees that have given me both the analytical rigor to solve complex problems and the practical know-how to bring innovative ideas to life.
Professional Journey and Business Ownership
Early in my career, I founded and ran a local business. That experience taught me firsthand the challenges small enterprises face—from managing cash flow to adapting rapidly in the face of market shifts. Navigating budgeting constraints, regulatory requirements, and evolving customer needs sharpened my resilience and deepened my empathy for local entrepreneurs striving to keep their doors open.
Community Involvement
Giving back has always been central to my values. Over two terms, I volunteered with the Lago Lindo Community League, helping to plan events, manage budgets, and foster neighborhood connections.
I also contributed to a variety of local initiatives, including:
- Santa’s Anonymous, where my children learn the value of giving
- Helping Vietnam, I was on the board of directors for two terms, coordinating events to raise funds for the less fortunate in Vietnam
- The Heritage Festival, promoting cultural exchange and local artisans
- The Fringe Festival, supporting emerging performers and grassroots creativity
These roles reinforced my belief that strong communities are built through collaboration, clear communication, and shared purpose.
Civic Engagement and Vision
Life has settled into a steadier rhythm for me lately—but I’ve been compelled to reengage in civic life as I watch our city grapple with rising crime rates, expanding budgets, and policies that sometimes feel disconnected from residents’ real needs. I refuse to be boxed into a traditional partisan label. I stand squarely for the people of Karhiio, committed to asking tough questions, seeking transparent answers, and advocating for practical solutions that work for everyone.
My Commitment
I bring a mindset rooted in data-driven analysis and grounded by everyday experience. Whether it’s improving public safety or ensuring responsible spending, I’m here to listen, learn, and lead. I invite you to reach out with your questions, insights, and concerns. Together, we can shape a future that reflects the best of our community’s values and potential.
